Crafting a Very Rare Magic Item (DMG p.129) has a creating cost of 50.000 gp

Selling a Very Rare Magic Item (DMG p.130) has a base price of 50.000 gp

Buying a Very Rare Magic Item (DMG p.135) has a cost that goes from 5.001 gp to 50.000 gp

Is this correct? It seems... strange to me that the crafting cost is higher than the buying cost.

Each of those optional rules - creating, selling, and buying - are designed to be functional without necessarily including the other two.

You are missing the text that accompanies the table which explains that the values vary depending on the campaign style in regards to magic item commonality - a setting in which magic items are rare and special will likely not be one in which you can even buy a very rare magic item, and if you can it will be at a price of 50,000 gp (no different from crafting it), but a setting in which magic items are far more commonplace and shops exist in major cities that have a stock of a wide variety of magical items might have a very rare magic item (or even more than one) on sale for 10,000 gp (but the DM running such a setting is likely to have reduced the cost to craft items in a similar fashion).

Besides that, think of this: Some guy spent years and years making an item - it cost him 50,000 gp to do so. He dies, passes the item to his next of kin. The item sees a bit of use, but the wielder ends up dying in some far-flung land. Eventually, someone else comes along and finds this item... but they don't have a lot of use for it, so they decide to sell it. They don't get much for it, in part because no one has enough cash to pay "full value" on it and in part because not many people really "need" the item in the first place. Then the buyer realizes he really don't need the item either, and turns around to try and sell it.

It sits on the shelf of his shop, priced at 50,000 gp for months and no one buys it. He trims the price, more months pass, trims the price again, more time and so on... until eventually the PC looking to buy this item in particular (because they are one of the rare folk in the world that "need" it) comes along and finds this very rare item priced at 5,000 gp because the merchant that owns it just wants to get something out of it.

So optional rules that doesn't work with each other...

Yes the values vary depending on the campaign style, but they should vary all in the same way for the same campaign.

A 5000gp VR item would be what u would expect to see in Eberron, a setting known for having a lot of very low magic items (and where even rare items are far more commonplace). In other settings, it could easily be closer to the 50K end of the spectrum.
