| #1ScuroNotteDec 18, 2014 20:48:02 | I see many threads regarding Multiclassing due to a specific class lacking certain traits or severe limitations, especially on Rangers and Sorcerers.
Many question is it wrong to tweak the classes to correct a problem, as long as doesn't severely Make a class too powerful. For example, multiple threads talk of the spell limitations for Sorcerers and Multiclassing to improve it with more powerful spells or uncreasing number known. Or giving them power to switch the elements of their spells (which even I think is way too powerful!)!Many threads say the the Sorcerer restoration is weak and better to add a level from another class.
Why not arbitrary increase number to 18 to 20 spells known and make the 20th level ability better to make players hesitant to switch. Isn't the 20th level power supposed to be very desirable?
I think the Rangers build is pretty good. There are something's I don't like, but nothing is perfect. Not even in real life. Even some complain certain abilities similiar with other classes are gained later compared to said classes.
One poster wrote in another thread that you can only evaluate the class's potential in game, not on paper. Which is true. But it is also a game to have fun with. If there are mostly complaints, some or a lot of the fun will be taken away from the game.
I digress, my original point is; Is it wrong to tweak a class's ability? The DMG even has a section on tailoring an existing class. Thus eleminatiing some of the complaining |

Ranger, in paticular the beastmaster could use some help. I give out a few extra spells to them. Though i'm thinking an extra feat at 6 and 14. That might be a bit too much though.
The only other issue i have is the monk. Who can be a bit weak at lower level. I start them with 5 ki points at level 2, though i still scale to 20.
So yes, you can tweak classes. Though i suggest tweaking them a little at a time. Give the sorcerer 1 extra spell, then 1 more, then 1 more, untill you find the balance point your looking for. |

Beastmaster ranger may be just a hair under average. But I don't think it's enough to warrant tacking on more stuff. In a game where the DM provides usability and utility of having a beast companion, I think it shines well enough to stand on its own.
I think monk is totally fine as is. Having played one and had one played by others, I see nothing wrong with them.
To me, the biggest issue I have with a class is warlock. More than any other class, IMO, it relies on the DM allowing for adequate short rests to function as intended. Although certainly other classes benefit from short rests as well, a warlock's core hinges on them.
At the end of the day, you need to tweak whatever needs tweaking for your table and particular playstyle. Because that's the only thing that matters. Over time you fnid what works for you and yours. Don't take anyone's else's word for it.

Thanks. It's in my top 5. Well written, original, and drew you into the story. Couldn't put it down. |
| #5El_CondoroDec 19, 2014 16:00:13 | To me, the main problem with the Beast Master ranger is the need to use the ranger's action to command the companion. My DM allows the companion to be commanded as a bonus action and that works really well - then it's not an either/or. |

BTW, seeing the thread made me think... "Questions from McDonalds...??" (McQuestions) |
