MC Spell Casting

I figured this is a better (if late) place to debate this out then further cluttering the Ask a simple question thread

Since ALL the 1/2 & 1/3 casters, Bard, and Sorcerer all have specific language refering to the respective class table regarding slots in there spells known/prepared limitations and Cleric, Druid, and Wizard conspicuously (and purposely IMO) leave the language regarding class table out when talking about spells know/prepared limitations, I absolutely feel the example of a MC cleric 3/ Wizard 3 can prepare 3rd level cleric spells since it says under cleric spell prepartion rules his his only limited by his spell slots not the spell slots on his class table (like the specific language included on 6 of the 9 other casting classes).

In the Ranger 4/Wizard 3 example the Wizard does not have any 3rd level SPELLS KNOWN since that part of the equation (i.e. new spells by level) specificly mentions SLOTS BY WIZARD level. Optional spell book sidebar allows for you to add spells of a level you have slots for without the limiting text of wizard level or table. That sidebar allows for the real possibility of the Ranger 4/Wizard 3 to have 3rd level spells in his spell book he can prepare and cast WITHOUT contradicting the MC rules given.

In summary, The reason I feel so strongly about the MC casting rules working this way, which I know is in the minority on this forum, is the fact that the language of CLASS TABLE (OR CLASS LEVEL) restricing spells known/prepared is specifically mentioned in 6 of the 9 casters and in the 2 (cleric and druid)of 9 where it not mentioned the process of spells known/prepared is restricted only by slots available not by class table. And in the last case of wizard his 2 new spells known is limited by his wizard level but the optional rule on the same page conspicuously leaves out that language and only uses spell slots as the limiting factor.

Furthermore Wizard 19 cleric 1 would have at most 6 cleric spells (less in reality due to MAD) prepared wich even if all 9th level that would still share his 1 9th level slot with his wizards spells. IMO that is not broken or OP.

Lastly I have seen the sage advice that said Crawford would not allow a wizard 2/cleric 2 to scribe a 2nd level spell in his spell book and I concede that is the only evidence to the contrary to my case.

I thought the PHB had a pretty specific example, where it explained how you could have a spell slot of higher level than you could prepare a spell. And that you could use that slot to cast a lower level spell with potentially greater effect.

The multiclassing rules for specasting say you prepare spells for each class as if you were level x in said class, not counting levels in any other class. Your interpretation does not work for preparing Cleric spells. However, this rule does leave open a loophole that, as a multiclass wizard, you can copy spells into your spellbook of higher level than you should be able to(only if your scribe them from a scroll or another spellbook). You cannot prepare them or gain them as your bonus spells for leveling up, but you can have them in your spellbook. The spellcasting rules for your class may say that you prepare spells for any level you have spellslots, but since you are multiclassing, you must use the more specific rules for spellcasting detailed in the chapter on Customization. Among those rules is that PREPARATION is done for each class separately. Example: Wizard 3/ Cleric 3 You have 3rd level spell slots, therefore your spellbook let's you copy level 3 spells into your spellbook. Wizard spellcasting says you can prepare spells for every level which you have spell slots. Unfortunately, the multiclass rules that state you prepare spells separately for each class based on their respective table. So yes, you can have fireball in your spellbook as a Wizard 3/Cleric 3, but you can't prepare it as you don't get level 3 spell slots as a Wizard until 5th level. In order to cast 3rd level spells you would have to be Cleric 5 or Wizard 5.

Wow... Talking about seeing mirages... I went back and read the same class pages I did earlier and completely misread them...
