| #1DurwanAug 12, 2014 13:06:47 | So Iv been looking at this "Inflict wounds" spell, but unsure how to play it.
Im guessing at this, but feel free to correct me. Since its an "melee spell attack" with the "range: touch" I gather that the player has to attack and have fysical contact but using his ability(wis for cleric) to attack instead of str. As for the target since its a touch attack I would guess they could use their dex but not their armour bonus? |

That might have been from a few packets back, though. |

If it's a "saving throw", they roll 1d20+the specificed stat+ proficency (if any) vs 8 + Wis + proficency. |

| #6ObeseBoyWonderAug 12, 2014 13:37:08 | The rules for spell attack modifiers are under the spellcasting ability header for each class it applies to. General idea is d20+Prof+Spellcasting Ability versus AC. I'm curious if the spell sniper feat doubles the touch reach, like it does normal ranged attack rolls as it doesn't differentiate between ranged or touch spells. |

In exchange you get to use your CASTING STAT for all spell attack rolls and a flat proficiency bonus rather than variable BaB progressions and have at-will cantrips that are competitive with weapon attacks! Rolling a melee attack roll for a spell as a caster (with a strength dump and poor BAB) against full AC would have been brutal in earlier editions, but now they are comparable to a figher in this regard. |
| (Reply to #8)shivafang | Depends how you look at it. A range of 'Self' is 0. A range of touch (being a creature adjacent to you) is a range of 5 feet. Unsure how I'd rule it.

| #21Zerik0Aug 16, 2014 5:56:28 | The only exception to this that I have found so far is Shocking Grasp, which gives advantage to the caster if they are attacking someone clad in metal armor. |
