| #1xirr2000Sep 08, 2014 11:17:13 | I'm interested in a feat that woudl allow a caster to cast a ranged attack in melee without suffering from disadvantage. I would have thought the Combat Caster feat woudl provide this, but it does not. Suggestions? Or if you want to make a melee caster is this just a cross that must be borne....? |
| #2melloredSep 08, 2014 11:29:08 | Crossbow Expertise does this.
Though, it's a bit weak for just a feat. |
| #3xirr2000Sep 08, 2014 11:39:45 | I thought that at first as well, but the text seems to indicate it applies only to weapon attacks. No? |
| #4furious_kenderSep 08, 2014 11:42:37 | Nope, crossbow expertise works with spells. Most feats now have multiple uses since there are so few feats. |
| #5xirr2000Sep 08, 2014 11:44:02 | Lol, this seems like it shoudl be part of another feat that deals with comba casting or casting in War........what was it called again....? |
| #6melloredSep 08, 2014 11:46:38 | IMO: Close Range *Ranged attacks do not have disavantage in melee. +1 to any stat.
That leaves it open for anyone. |
| #7xirr2000Sep 08, 2014 12:22:38 | Is that an actual feat or rule you are quoting or a suggestion for a custom feat? |

| #9PrismSep 08, 2014 13:42:35 | How many ranged attack spells do wizards really get though? Surely there are enough other spells to use instead |
| #10xirr2000Sep 08, 2014 19:18:17 | Well actually i was making this for a warlock who has a 16 Dex, and a light crossbow, so it might not be that bad at all |

| #17Suzume_StjohnSep 09, 2014 11:08:32 | What mello said. You can only create a melee weapon. But if you have a magic ranged weapon, you can nake that your pact weapon. Allowed RAW. |
| #18BW0222Sep 09, 2014 11:18:34 | There is no direct way that I know of. However, there are ways you could effectively avoid the penalty...
* Do something to give yourself advantage. The disadvantage would then effectively be cancelled out. If your oponent was say blinded, darkness, you were invisible, etc.
* Polearm master + war caster + reach. When someone enters your reach you get an reaction attack and war caster allows this to be a ranged spell attack. Since it happens when the person is 10' away, you don't get disadvantage. You then need to disengage to move back, but it certainly works. Obvious problem is that it is two feats, plus getting proficiency in a reach weapon. |
