A few ideas I had was like he would have a 5 foot non-magic cone [or no non-magic cond] and every time you level he also gains levels that let him unlocking new eye beam types and longer non-magic cones. I'm starting a dragonborn-wizard type character and I was hoping someone on here could help me make him so he doesn't kill everything for me. Thanks, this would be an awesome part of the game would it not?
[mike wazowski] best name for a beholder ever! |

Though a wzard doesn't normally get the option of a special familar, you might have to do something special for that. I'd probably let you take a feat that gave you the special familar and the Voice of the Chain Master ability. When you cast spells from it you can say they come from its eyes.
Or play a warlock, they work pretty well for Dragonborn.
As for the beholder leveling up with you, that starts to sound like a custom class design, could be tricky. |

Key: X= level. |

This is all up to the DM though, there's nothing in the rules for it. |
