#1 Ixquic Sep 03, 2014 8:28:20	Hello,    We are having a rule discrepancy about the monk's bonus attack ability.  Does it gain the damage mod bonus?  The arguement seems to be that it falls under "two weapon fighting" and as an additional bonus attack does not get the mod, so would be just a D4 straight damage roll.  The other side says that it's a totally seperate attack from the initial monk/unarmed strike attack that triggers it so it does get the ability mod, i.e D4 + dex bonus.  Either way it needs to roll an aditionaly attack to actually hit with it.  Does anyone know which of these is correct?   Thanks!!

#3 Bloodscythe Sep 03, 2014 9:48:27	What you need to understand is martial arts and two-weapon fighting are NOT the same thing.  Don't apply any of the rules of TWF to martial arts.  Martial arts has its own rules.  You do add your modifier to attack and damage rolls for the unarmed strike bonus action gained using martial arts.  If you try to gain a bonus action from a weapon held in your off-hand, it would not get the modifier because it would fall under TWF.
#4 mellored Sep 03, 2014 9:51:00	Oh, and monks still can use TWF if they want.   Like if something resisted bludgoning, they might want to make an extra attack with a short sword.  They would not get a bonus for that.     But yea, what bloodscythe said.  Martial arts, and TWF are seperate things.
