Monk martial arts and weapon proficiencies

If a monk multiclasses and gains new weapon proficiencies, e.g. Rapier, can they use that weapon with their martial arts ability?

Nope.

 

Martial Arts isn't used with any weapon you're proficient with, but just the listed ones.

 

I'd love to use Extra attacks with a Greatsword, and use my Bonus attack for a free Unarmed Attack (or two with Flurry).

 

But that would be a tad over the top. ;)

Only if that weapon is a simple one-handed weapon, or a short sword.

Given monk already has that as proficiencies, your answer is likely to be 'no.'
