I have a couple of questions concerning the Mounted Combat rules located on page 198 of the PHB. This is in reference to Find Steed spell within the paladin list.
The spell states that the steed summoned is intelligent. Under the mounted combat rules while mounted does the paladin and the steed share the same initiative?
While mounted can the warhorse use it's trample attack in addition to the paladin using his full actions?
Per those rules:
"The initiative of a controlled mount changes to match yours when you mount it."
"An independent mount retains its place in the intiative order"
If you're controlling the mount, you use your initiative, but are limited to Dash, Disengage, and Dodge.
If you are letting it do it's own thing, it uses it's own initiative, and has no limits on what actions it can take.
The challenge to your question is that the Trample attack means that horse and rider have different initiatives. The Trample attack would move the mounted paladin and steed THROUGH the space with the desired targets. If this movement ended within 5 ft of the paladin's desired target, then yes, he can use an Action and Bonus Action against that target...WHEN his initiative comes up.
He could also Ready an Attack Action, have the horse Trample through the crowd, and use his readied attack as he rides through....but he wouldn't get a Bonus action.
