Also at 1st level, you gain proficiency with heavy armor.

I think it's intended - the Nature domain has Divine Strike, and almost every domain that gains the Divine Strike class feature also gains heavy armor proficiency as a bonus proficiency (the only exception being Trickery or Deception- the name escapes me right now).

Basically, I see two kinds of Cleric Domains - "War Priest" (primarily fighting) domains and "Devoted Cleric"/laser cleric (primarily spellcasting) domains.  The fighting domains receive heavy armor and Divine Strike (and some also receive martial weapon proficiency) as class features.  The casting domains receive bonus damage to cantrips as a class feature.

I don't see a problem with Nature being a "fighting" domain and getting heavy armor - they are Clerics after all, not Druids or other kinds of priests.  Clerics are by (thematic) definition trained combatants.  The Trickery (Deception, or whatever) Domain seems like it'd have more of a case for no heavy armor, as much of its flavor and many of its features are based on stealth, which all heavy armor hampers.

Perhaps if a player wants to be a more lightly-armored nature priest, they could play a Druid instead of a Nature Cleric - having a heavy-armor Nature priest gives some additional options to explore.

Also:  Green Knights (Oath of the Ancients Paladins) are heavily-armored but also come from a nature and life-preserving background.

The big bonus for the nature domain is picking the Shillelagh cantrip, Especially if you want to move away from a strength based melee type.

A possible variant could be to replace heavy armor proficiency with a +1 to AC with light and medium armor.  It would eventually lead to a similar AC.
