| #1Magistus71Nov 10, 2014 15:57:28 | Will there be any offical rules for Naval Combat for 5e? |
| #2lawrencehoyNov 11, 2014 2:06:48 | I'm hoping for an eventual supplement with this type of content. Something that includes naval combat, as well as other maritime adventure material; things such as: ship deckplans, crew and armament specifics, and outfitting information; underwater society details; waterbourne random encounter tables for oceans, rivers and lakes; tidal effects and tendancies; maritime skills; etc. |
| #3Magistus71Nov 11, 2014 9:00:26 | I have a sneaking suspicion we won't have anything offical from WotC though, most likely a 3rd party. Though while looking for something, I found this http://blogofholding.com/?p=6415 I would love to make this a little more inline with 5e. |
| #4SynjinNov 11, 2014 9:00:28 | I'd love to see this as well, since I've been planning martime adventures in my new 5E game. |
| #5Magistus71Nov 11, 2014 10:12:19 | I run a game and play in another. The game I am playing in, we started on a ship, heading south along a coast line to get to a city. But I doubt that we will be encountering any ship to ship combat in that game, maybe just a storm. |
| #6OoftaMegNov 11, 2014 10:59:33 | I seem to remember rules for it in the DMG2 for 3.5 ... but I could be hallucinating again. I'll look tonight |
| #7Magistus71Nov 11, 2014 13:22:56 | I would be curious to see the Naval rules from the DMG2 for 3.5. |

| #9OoftaMegNov 12, 2014 6:30:55 | I forgot to look last night (I added a reminder for myself for tonight) but I was checking out D&D classics, there is a 2e rulebook DMGR9 Of Ships and the Sea (2e)
There's also Stormwrack (2005)
Because now you've got me thinking about my next campaign being a sea-going adventure. |
| #10Magistus71Nov 12, 2014 9:01:16 | I looked at the rules in Stormwrack, not digging them. The rules I found on Blog of Holding, are very workable, but but updated for advantage/disavantage in the optional rules portion. |
| #11Magistus71Nov 19, 2014 17:07:45 | So, if there are no rules in the DMG, who is up to making the rules on Blog of Holding, more 5e campatible? The other thing I am looking or is mass combat rules, which I guess ties in to ship to ship. |
| #12IllithidbixNov 19, 2014 17:37:05 | DMGR9 Of Ships and the Sea for 2E was indeed a hella supplement if you wanted detailed Naval Combat rules. Worth getting on PDF. I have it lying around somewhere... |

| #14SynjinNov 20, 2014 10:37:06 | I'm really hoping the DMG covers some of this.
My homebrew game is going to consist of Aboleths and the Kraken as the BBEGs, and will be VERY water-themed. Merfolk, Kuo-Toa, and all sorts of aquatic creatures. The Aboleths and their perfect memories of millenia-gone-by, is also going to be the major hook for one of my PCs. A Warlock who's pact is with the Great Old One. Abberations abound! I'm hoping he'll take the hook of those perfect memories, since some of his features and Traits from his Hermet background is the insatiable quest for knowledge that eludes him. |
| #15OoftaMegNov 20, 2014 14:26:11 | I don't think I saw anything in the DMG table of contents. I guess we'll know in a week. I'll probably get ships of the sea and adjust for 5E when I get to that party of my campaign. On a side note I did look at some old books, while the 3.5 DMG had stats for vessels, they had no real rules for naval combat that I could see. |
| #16SynjinNov 20, 2014 15:13:45 | Naval Combat throughout the editions. http://blogofholding.com/?p=6405
Super simple Naval Combat for any edition. |
| #17Magistus71Nov 24, 2014 12:43:58 | I have seen those, and actually link to the second one previously in this thread. How would we go about making the version for Any Edition 5e friendly? |
| #18NachturnusNov 24, 2014 13:44:27 | I'm actually midway through creating a compatable naval combat system that tries to get the flavor of naval combat (maneuvering, weather gage, team-effort) but without getting ludicrously over-complex. The main issue with it is that I've not fully described all the systems involved, and each ship must be built and tested before it can be applied to the game (I've only tested three so far. Once there was a larger database, it'd be more concise.) For the record, this campaign's technology is Age of Sail, so cannon and gun powder are present, however it would be easy to convert the ruling made therein for ballista. The rules are also meant to be compatible with oar-based ships as well, so earlier settings are also viable. |

| #22AmaniliztecuhtliNov 27, 2014 17:01:47 | I would encourage you to take a second look at Stormwrack. It really does work well. We used the rules in there for ship chases and Naval combat and had no real trouble at all. I remember it went very smoothly. |
