I know there is a mechanic to bond a magical weapon to yourself, but then doesn't that defeat the purpose of the flexibility weapon summoning allows? You are now stuck with a single +3 weapon. Basically, I am not sure how damage progression happens. Unless I missed it, I don't see any features that allow you to add more stats to you damage or anything.
I might be missing something obvious and not thinking it through, but I am slightly confused. |

If using random treasure rolls, even using them as bountifully as recommended by the DMG, there is a less than 1% chance that an entire party of 4 characters ends up with 3 or more +3 weapons among them. |
| #3JS20Jan 30, 2015 20:57:34 | Even with them using a +1 weapon means that you are falling behind though, right? |
| #4AaronOfBarbariaJan 30, 2015 21:12:18 | Not really, no, since the main benefit of a +1 weapon is covered by pact blade being a magical weapon: overcoming resistance or immunity to nonmagical weapon damage.
...and it's also not actuallly guaranteed that the rest of the party gets +1 weapons even. |
| #5durntaurJan 30, 2015 22:44:57 | You can transform one magic weapon into your pact weapon by performing a special ritual while you hold the weapon. ... You can then dismiss the weapon, shunting it into an extradimensional space, and it appears whenever you create your pact weapon thereafter.
- PHB p. 108
- Doesn't work on artifacts and sentient weapons. - The ritual can be performed on a different weapon, breaking the prior bond.
I don't see how this is in anyway hindering or a net loss. Of what flexibility are you referring? |
