Hey there.

During my late game, the group did a " ninja assault" on some baddies, and well...not all of them are exactly stealthy.

Couldn't find how the distance to a target affects the perception roll, as i guess finding a hidden/invisible target at 30' is a lot easier that finding one at 600'

thanks!

You, the DM, must decide in those situations how to rule and what mechanics (if any) to bring into play. Generally when you're trying to determine surprise when surprise is uncertain, you roll Stealth against passive Perception. If you feel circumstances warrant giving the Stealth roll advantage or the passive Perception disadvantage (or vice versa), explain why, and make the call.
