Real quick query. Im pretty sure im interpreting it right but better be 100%...One of my rogue players was hit by a creature who did initial weapon damage and then as a result of being hit it difd a further batch of Poison Damage. He wanted to view it all as being one damage and that he could halve the total of the weapon+poison with Uncanny Dodge. My interpretation is the Uncanny Dodge halved the initial batch of weapon damage only but he would take the full Poison damage...Was i correct?

depend how they formulate it.

If the damage is AUTOMATIC if you hit, then it's one batch of damage.

If the weapon entry of the monster say:

Make an attack roll +X and deal 1d6piercing+1d8poison, then it's one batch of damage so uncanny dodge halve both 1d6piercing and 1d8 poison

If the damage require an additinal roll (a second attack roll, or allow for a save)  then it's 2 separate batch of damage

If it's a different ability that activate when he get hit like:

Make an attaqck roll +X and deal 1d6piercing damage.

Then in a separate paragraph: If you hit with a bite attack the target make a Constitution check, if he fail he take Y poison damage etc... then Uncanny dodge halve only the 1d6 piercing.

Other similar example:

rogue who do sneak attack. The sneak attack only need to hit, if he hit he automatically do sneak attack so uncanny dodge halve both weapon and sneak damage.

paladin Divine smite, Same thing only require to hit if you hit you automatically take the divine smite damage, so uncanny dodge halve both weapon and divine smite. Both these example do NOT allow for adittional save to prevent that additional damage from sneak attack or Divine smite.

a Giant spider bite attack if the spider hit the target with a bite attack is deal piercing damage, then allow the target a Constitution check DC11 to take more poison damage. SO the rogue uncanny dodge only prevent the bite attack, not the poison.

Exactly like a fighter level 5 with 2 attack, the rogue only uncanny dodge ONE of the 2 weapon attack.
