This means that the bonus attack d4 gets to also benefit from the Great Weapon Fighting trait, so the first 1 or 2 on the d4 gets re-rolled.
In addition, the other part of the feat says "when they enter your reach." That means they can be forced into your reach also to provoke said attack. That Thorn Whip cantrip just got a whole lot more appealing. I have to find other forced movement powers so my team can throw them into my halberd.
A human halberd fighter with the feat and some planning and luck can pound out 2d10 + d4 plus triple mods at first level, with 16 strength that's 22.5 avg dmg with no re rolls from fighting style, with a high end of 33. Not to shabby.
This is a very big buff to the pole arms, more so than other weapons can get. It is also great economy of class traits, as you can take the defense trait now also.
