When we post game rules informaiton and make statments on what the rules say we need to be carefull and make sure that what we say is actually in the rule book and backed up with rules text. If it is not we need to be clear that this is a house rule or we are reading into the intention of the developers and that the rules do not cover the situation. New players and New DM's will come here looking for help. We need to be responsable and honest with what our information is that we share with them.

This version of the game has lots of areas that are not explicitly stated in the rules such as holding weapons in your off hand and not attacking with them. Since the game is silent on the situation we need to make sure we let people know when we talk about a place in the rules like this that the rules are silent on this and the that using logic or common understanding you can do this.

I am not suggesting we need more explicity rules the ones we have are great, they are not mechanicly and word restrictive like some other games are. The rules work from a common understanding of normal logical things work just like you think they should. We don't need rules to tell us that the characters breate air, it is understood that they do any not understood part will be spelled out.

I disagree with the OP.

This is a community forum, not a place where WotC staff give rulings. The community is diverse and plural and our opinions are diverse and plural. Forum postings reflect that. Long may it be so !

I don't agree that people should only post judgements that conform to some mythical norm. That is not helpful in the slightest because it obscures the reality of the situation, which is that there is no right answer to anything.

If people come here looking for guidance, the best guidance they can be given is that, look there are all these opinions, pick what feels right to you or make up your own, and run with it.

Did we really need another thread going over pretty much the same thing?

I am saying that the rules are designed to be used RAI where you interpret the game rules at your table and play the game your way. What I say is common and understood at my table will differ from yours so when I post about rules I use I need to keep that in mind and explain what my game table rules are so you can understand how my game works. Yours may differ and you may do something I do not. If you explain what you do and what your table is like I might find something that you do appeals to me and I may want to integrate it. Or your play style may not work well for my table and we might not be in agreement about how to handle a siuation. Both are fine. But what you understand at your table and what I understand at mine will not always be the same. Both of us will be playing with common understood elements, but they will only be understood by those that we play with and those that are of a similar play style.

So the game is played via common knowledge and understood meaning, but they will verry from table to table.

It's apparent that he wants to win an argument, not discuss anything based on the pedantic haranguing we've been subjected too.
