My other thoughts on the matter are this: no matter what school a character focuses on, there is no reason to view spells outside that school as less of a choice - so potent cantrip is fine, and would be fine, even if there weren't any evocation cantrips for it to work on. |

Slightly lower damage potential (d10 Firebolt vs d8/d6), but close enough and it has enough fun applications that I would use Create Bonfire anyways. |

| #5Danny_MontannyApr 29, 2015 14:19:22 | As it stands, there are 2 cantrips in the PHB it effects, Acid Splash and Poisin Spray. Which both happen to be Conjuration spells. Not really evoking the Evoker, if you ask me...
Any Evoker is going to be casting Evocations, why does a feature that they get only work on spells that aren't even Evocations? |

| #7Tempest_StormwindApr 29, 2015 15:21:36 | As it stands, I think the only cantrip it really works on is Thundeclap (Elemental Evil, it's a miniature Thunderwave without the push - it's evocation and requires a saving throw, and doesn't already deal half damage if the target succeeds.). That's a little specialized for my tastes.
I'd be fine expanding it to any cantrips (for the same justification Aaron gives - lorewise, it's less about the school of the spell than it is about the way evokers learn to channel spell energy.) Then again, I always found evocation to be the least interesting use for magic, and within evocation, the spells I found most interesting were never the MakeStuffGoBoom! spells - Contingency, for instance. |

| #10CantrumMay 20, 2015 11:39:28 | My opinion, Potent Cantrip is far from viable, because the evoker must take specific cantrips (from a very restricted list) or lose the 6th level ability. |
