question about dragonborn breath weapons

in the PH, it says it does 2d6 damage, and can only do it once per rest period. As they level the damage pool periodically  increases (3d6, 4d6)

 

Yet, in the adventure HotDQ (page 91), the character of Langdedrosa Cyanwrath does 4d10 damage.

 

Plus there is something called recharge 5-6. does that mean he can recharge his breath weapon in 5 or 6 rounds? if so, which is it, 5 or 6?

 

Why don't other dragonborns have this ability, or is it a certain feat or something that can be aquired later (he is level 6 after all).

PCs and monsters don't always work in the same ways in D&D 5e.

 

"Recharge 5-6" means that at the start of the monster's turn, roll a d6. If it's a 5 or 6, they can use that ability (in this case, a breath weapon) again that turn. If it's a 1 to 4, it can't, but can roll again next turn to see if it recharges.

holy crap! good to know, but won't make the party happy

 

 

 

Cyanwrath is a Half-Dragon, not a Dragonborn

 

Half dragons then, I assume, will be detailed in the MM?

 

Conceptually, they look the same, the dragonborn and half-dragons. What difference, if any, is there in appearance.

 

I have a player playing a Dragonborn. I'd hate for him to wonder into town and get attacked for being a half-dragon.

 

If a half dragon is caused from the union of a drgon and a human, what is a dragonborn? Do half dragons, mating with other half dragons, make more half dragons, or dragonborn?

 

any help is appreciated.

Running into that half-dragon would make any Dragonborn PC so sad... Someone whose breath weapon isn't horribly gimped, whoa, what a tail-slap to the face.
