I've read and heard some conflicting information about how warlock multiclassing works for casting spells, and I was hoping you guys could clarify it for me. Thanks!
How I Think It Works
As I understood it from the book, and some of the threads I have seen, Pact Magic certainly doesn't add spell levels. It allows you to cast any spell you may know from other casting classes, BUT you separately keep track of warlock spells.
For example, you are a sorcerer 5/warlock 2. From sorcerer, you can cast your 4/3/2 allotment of 1st/2nd/3rd level spells. From warlock, you can cast your warlock spells twice every short rest. You can cast your first level warlock spells from your first level sorcerer slots as well. Finally, you can cast your FIRST level sorcerer spells ONLY (as in, not your second or third level sorcerer spells) with your two pact Magic slots every short rest.
How Another Player in My Game Vehemently Insists It Works
Another player in my game insists that it works differently than my interpretation, and that warlock pact magic slot can be used to cast ANY spell the character knows.
In the above scenario, the player contends that the character would be able to cast his third and second level sorcerer spells with his pact magic slots as well, and so those two levels of warlock essentially grant two extra spell slots of whatever highest level the sorcerer can cast (up to 5th) every short rest. This seems far too good to me, but I've been wrong before. Can anyone clarify? Thanks! ,

| #3melloredMay 22, 2015 14:45:41 | You cannot cast a level 3 spell in a level 1 slot. |
| #4ArialBlackMay 22, 2015 14:45:42 | Your player is wrong.
Warlock spells can be used to cast any spell you know, but in order to be used to cast ANY spell per the rules, you must use a slot of at least the level of the spell being cast.
Leo a warlock's 1st level slots can only be used to cast 1st level spells, but ANY 1st level spell you know from any class.
And a warlock's 5th level slots can be used to cast any spell of 5th level or lower. |

Second quick but related question: is there an official ruling on whether the warlock pact slot can be cashed in for sorcery points with a multiclass sorcerer? Thank you in advance.

Thanx heaps. |
