Thats ofcourse pretty lame when the lvl 20 rangers pet hawk only heals 1d4 hp when its lacking 79hp after a tough fight. Id personally rule that it has the same number of HD as the ranger. Most likely as the number of ranger lvls and not character lvl.

I would say that since a beast companion's hp is one of two possibles, then the answer might also be one of two possibles: If its hp maximum equals its normal maximum, its HD equals its normal HD. If its hp maximum equals 4*ranger level, its number of HD equals the ranger's number of HD.
I think the beast master subclass needs a revision. Hopefully it's something they're working on. |
