Readying a Ritual

Can you use the Ready Action when casting a spell as a Ritual? I know the Ready Action states that the spell must have a casting time of an Action to  be readied, but I wanted some feedback. Specifically if my character takes the Ritual Caster feat to learn Silence, could he cast it as a ritual and then hold the energies until later?

No.  Rituals do not have a cast time of  1 action.

That said, I would allow it if you didn't move and you didn't have to hold it too long (i.e. as a trap), but not allow you to walk around with it ready to cast.

Awe, I wanted to hold it and release it when the BBEG was monoluging. Also, as I did ask before, there's no reason why a Ritual can't be mobile. Just requires some forethought.

Man, that means I have to perfectly plan it to get the ritual going while the vilain is right in the heaviest part of his monologue just for the sake of doing it. That's 10 whole minutes I have to listen to him before I can beat his face in.

Well you could just prep the spell...

I'm not a fan of multiclassing and I wanted to take a fighter that was using a variant archetype that doesn't grant spells. It's fine, I accept the limitations of the choices I made. I just wanted to do it for the shock value, mostly. The look on the DM's face when he hears me say "I release my readied Silence spell and grapple the BBEG as he monologues." But, if it can't be done, it can't be done. No worries.

Well if the DM allows you to move + ritual (and i don't actually see a rule that say's you can't), then just start casting it 9 minutes 30 seconds before you go in.

Then just make sure he talks for a few more seconds....

Why would the BBEG start monologuing while you were performing a ritual?  Wouldn't it want to first stop your spellcasting?  It's comparable to saying the fighter walks up to the BBEG and ties it up with chains while it's busy monologuing.  It is going to notice, and it will act accordingly.
