Quick question about sorcerers taking the Ritual Caster feat.

Do the two spells the feat says you get count against you known spells?

Also, does it mean you can 'find' spells and write them in the spell book (so long as they have the 'ritual' tag) and if so do they count against your spells known?

Thanks

According to the recent sage advice column you would be able to cast them using your slots if the spells are on your class spell list, but you would not be able to use your slots to cast them otherwise. I believe tempest said the same thing, but it seemed appropriate to clarify.

They do both contain the you learn spells section, so it seems to follow he same logic. The main restriction on ritual career is needing to have your ritual book in your hand while casting the associated spells.

Guess the wordings look different to me.

And I'd follow what I think the book says here, otherwise I think sorcs and warlocks would get too much benefit.

Is it that strong to have limited ritual casting? It's good, but I don't know if being able to add a handful of rituals is too strong.

personally specially with the empty last 2 level of the sorcerer, I prefer to take 2 wizard level and gaining in the process

- Ritual caster

- 8 spell level 1 spell (including rituals) so your sorcerer can learn higher level spell, and keep magic missile, shield and other utility level 1 spell in there wizard spell book instead

- 3 cantrip (yes your Intellect bonus isn't as good as your Charisma, so avoid taking offensive cantrip and take the utility cantrip that do not require attack roll or DC)

specialization bonus, diviner portent dice are really nice, making sure your target fail his save against your disintegrate spell.

you need 13 Intellect to do this, but you need 13 intellect or wisdom to take ritual caster anyway so no big deal.

you are not loosing your spellcaster level (yes you won't learn your spell as fast, but you still ahve your spell per day, so you can still up-cast scorching ray at your normal max spell level.

Ritual caster allow you to learn higher level ritual, while the 2 level dip in wizard restrict you to 1st level ritual, but once you got alarm, detect magic, identify, tenser floating disk, unseen servant, comprehend language, what else do you want? do you really need the commune spells? Leomund tiny hut, etc...
