#1 shintashi Jul 24, 2015 10:43:07	Can a Rod of Absorption absorb cantrips?   I'm also wondering if lightning bolt is considered an area effect if it only targets the rod wielder. Finally, is a magic missile considered an area effect or a single target spell for this purpose.   Thanks :D
#2 jaelis Jul 25, 2015 6:06:00	While holding this rod you can use your reaction to absorb a spell that is targetting only you and not with an area of effect. The absorbed spell's effect is cancelled, and the spell's energy -- not the spell itself -- is stored in the rod. The energy has the same level as the spell when it was cast.
#3 Yunru Jul 25, 2015 6:16:50	Magic Missile isn't a single target spell. Luckily the rod only concerns non-AoEs that only target you, not that can only target you. TL;DR: Does it affect an area? If no; is it targeting only you? If yes; rod works. Cantrips count as level 0 spells. Phone will probably eat the formatting.
#4 shintashi Jul 25, 2015 7:55:49	so as it currently reads, the rod can absorb infinite cantrips, as long as it only happens once per reaction? obviously since cantrips dont cost any spells to cast, using the rod to power them would also cost 0, and be pointless, but defensively, i could see how this might turn into some arguments down the road. Some characters, like Warlocks, are really dependent on cantrips as their bread and butter effect.
