#1 darkrequiem Jul 04, 2014 17:47:47	I am really liking the new edition so far, looking forward to pick up the books as soon as they are available. I do have a question about the rogue's sneak attack however. Maybe this is in the Basic rules and I missed it, or perhaps this will be better explained in the PH, but I could not clearly find how a Rogue gets Advantage so they can sneak attack. I'm happy to see they have simplified flanking to simply requiring an adjacent ally against the same enemy. But if that is not possible (which happens with one group I game with as there are often only two players) how does Rogue get Advantage - not from surprise or initiative. The rules indicate Advantage usually comes from spells (which Rogues usually won't have) or Actions (but none I saw listed help here either). I'm not suggesting a Rogue should be able to sneak attack every round, but they need to be able to with reasonable frequency to be contributing effectively, and to avoid becoming frustrating to play in combat. I will be grateful for any clarification on this!
#2 Drayven27 Jul 04, 2014 18:05:48	Advantage isn't always defined by rules based actions and are more intended to be something given by the DM for creative play. Let's say the rogue throws dirt in the enemies eyes, that might grant advantage; position yourself on to higher ground, get advantage; knock the enemy off balance, get advantage. I believe the intention is to encourage players to be creative in combat.

#6 Archon007 Jul 05, 2014 11:47:31	Rogue gets sneak damage anytime they have advantage on a target OR if an ally, who is able to act, is within 5 feet of the target. The rogue can gain advantage in numerous way one is attacking from stealth. Which is the main reason they get the Cunning Action ability which allows them to take a Bonus action to attempt to hide, disengage, etc.
