It seems that this can be very complex.

Once per turn when you roll damage for a melee weapon attack, you can reroll the weapon’s damage dice and use either total.

I'll use a half-orc fighter weilding a halberd with great weapon fighter and +6 str bonus for my example

I roll for damage.
Example 1
First roll: 5
Savage attacker Reroll: 7

That's easy enough. I choose the 7. Now making it more complex.

Example 2
First roll: 1(Can I re roll this? if so lets say I get 5 again)
Savage attacker reroll: 7

Example 3
First roll: 5
Savage attacker reroll: 1(Can I reroll this? If so lets say I get 7 again)

Even more complex. Let's add a crit.

Example 4
First roll: 5, 6
Savage attacker reroll: 7, 7

Ok I choose the savage attacker re roll easy enough so far.

Lets add a crit with a 1 or 2 rolled.

Example 5

First Roll 5, 1(Do I get to reroll this?)
Savage Attaker reroll: 7, 2(Do I get to re roll this?)

This seems to get more complex the more dice I add. I haven't even added the half-orcs ability to roll an extra dice On a crit. From the wording it seems like I can make a complete reroll of all damage dice and reroll any 1 or 2 that pops up. so it might look like something like this on a crit.

First roll 5,5(crit) 2(Half orc ability, rerolled to a 5) + 6 for ability score. 21dmg.
Savage Attacker 7,1(crit. Reroll 1 and get a 7), 6(Half orc ability) + 6 for ability score. 26dmg.

Am I right on this?

The order of operations for how these three features apply seems clear to me.

  1. Roll the damage dice for your attack (1d10 in the case of a halberd), plus any additional dice if you scored a critical hit (+1d10 normally for a halberd critical, +1d10 more for half-orc savage attacks racial feature)
  2. If any of the dice from step 1 result in a 1 or 2, you make the choice to reroll each of them thanks to Great Weapon Fighting style, but must go with the rerolled result. This is where you would add your +6 damage modifier to the total and then apply it to your target's hit points.
  3. If you choose to use your Savage Attack feat, you keep track of your total at step 2 above, and then repeat step 1 and 2 in their entirety and select which result to use.

So yes, it does seem as though you have it correct at the end of your post.

You forgot that half orc racial bonus adds an extra damage die on crits..so a halberd crit rolls 3d10...no weapon crits for only 2 damage dice for a half orc ;)

but the order of operations seems clear...you roll your damage, then reroll 1s and 2s(once). Then you can roll a second set of dice also rerolling 1s and 2s(once). Then you choose which total to apply.

It appears you may also be able to reroll a superiority die or 2 of them on a crit?  But i dont think GWM lets you reroll 1s and 2s on spent superiority dice.
