Savage Attacker

I am playing a paladin/rogue with a rapier and has taken the savage attacker feat.  Rapier is d8, and so I could roll 1d8 twice and choose the better of the two (once a turn) by the feat ("Once per turn when you roll damage for a melee weapon attack, you can reroll the weapon's damage dice and use either total").  Can you please respond on the following situations if I would roll any more dice by this feat:

a) I get to add sneak attack damage.  Do I get to reroll the sneak attack dice again?

b) Elemental Weapon is cast on my rapier.  Do I get reroll the elemental damage?

c) I use my smite ability.  Do I get to reroll my smite damage?

d) Instead of a rapier, I am wielding a Flametongue.  Would I get to reroll the additional 2d6 damage when the fire is active?

e) Instead of a rapier, I manage to cast Flame Blade (probably from UMD and a scroll).  Do I get to reroll the 3d6 fire damage?

My current inclination is following:

a) no, sneak attack dice are not weapon damage (come from class ability)

b) no, damage comes from a spell, not the weapon

c) no, smite is a class ability (doesn't come from the weapon)

d) yes, Flametongue says it does an additional 2d6

e) no, it is a spell not weapon attack

Please let me know your thoughts.

Your inclinations, and reasons for them, match my thoughts on the matter.

I would say

B) Yes, the spell says the weapon is causing extra damage; so the 1D4 is part of the weapons damage. (Same as flametongue)

Sneak attack damage is treated just like weapon damage....it deals the same kind of damage, and is rolled twice on a crit.

The value of savage attacks actually diminishes the more dice you roll...just increaces your odds of rolling averageish.

You can even reroll superiority dice that add to damage, and an orc's savage criticals bonus die.

And critical hit dice?  And the extra d6 from Hex / Hunter's Mark?

Does the Hex spell say IT deals damage....or does it say when the warlock hits they deal an EXTRA dice?

Same goes for Hunters mark, and Bless, and Paladin smites, and Elemental Weapon etc...

Same goes for a critical hit, you are only 'applying' 1 damage roll.  The critical hit will let you roll 2x ALL of the above dice an extra time as well...the only thing that isn't counted twice on a critical is the base modifier from ability bonus.

Given the overall weakness of the feat, i would allow you to roll any dice over.
