#1 NuclearSunset Apr 12, 2015 10:59:03	I'm sorry if this hasnt already been a addressed in a previous thread. A search yielded no results so... In the DMG it states that anyone can 'attempt' to use a scroll so long as they can read a written language. It also has a table to use to determine a mishap when the attempt fails. But what I cannot find anywhere in the DMG or PHB is HOW the attempt is actually made? How do you succeed or fail? I'd assume it would be an Arcana check with the DC based on the spell level, maybe DC 10 + spell level? I'm just surprised that I cannot find it anywhere. Also, can a wizard copy a scroll into his spellbook? Again, I'd assume this would be fine but that doing so consumes the scroll just as it woud if you used the scroll to cast the spell. And of course you'd still the GP cost and time spent. We also couldnt find GP values of scrolls in either book... :/ We've also had some discussion about what it takes to scribe a scroll, alchemy mechanics, enchanting items, etc. Alot of crafting type things that players would liek to do, but nothing in the books. Its obviously very specialized rules mechanics and I'm not surprised stuff liek taht isnt in th PHB/DMG. Back in 3.5 they had TONS of supplement books that handled that kidn of thing, but I get the sense that 5e is trying to get away from having so many optional supplements. Any thoughts on this?
#2 jaelis Apr 12, 2015 11:04:31	You want the rules for "Spell Scrolls" on pg 200 of the DMG. The general rules you're looking at apply to things like scroll of protection. That will answer your questions, but briefly, the spell needs to be on your class spell list. If it is higher than a level you can normally cast, you need to make a check with your casting ability, DC = 10+spell level. A wizard can copy a spell to his spell book, it requires a DC 10 + spell level Arcana check.
