Sentinal- When a creatre within 5ft of you makes an attack against a target other than you, you can use your reaction to make a melle weapon attack against the attacking creature

Reaction- if the reaction interurupts another creature's turn, that creature can continue its turn right after the reaction.

Pushing attack- When you hit a creature with a weapon attack , you can expend one superiority dice to drive the target back. You add the die to the attack's damage roll and it the target is large or smaller it must make a strength saving throw. on a failed save, you push the target up to 15 feet away from you.

Does this work how i think it does?

They target your ally, you react and push them 15 feet, potentially negating their attack action and saving your ally, or do you have to make a basic attack (not any maneuvers added) ?

Even cooler if you have Polearm Master feat, as they would trigger an oa upon entering your reach. I wonder if on that oa, you could pushing attack again (granted you still have dice)?

Yes, it works the way you think. You only get one reaction though. Once you use your reaction, you can't use another one until after your turn has come around again. Still, it's a cool trick.

There's not really any timing rules in this game as far as I can tell. I'd say it's going to vary table to table.
