Additionally, you gain the minor illusion cantrip if you don’t already know it"   Does the cantrip also require Ki using this description? I say no for two reasons:   1) Why has the cantrip been singled out? Why not just say: "Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can use your ki to duplicate the effects of certain spells. As an action, you can spend 2 ki points to cast darkness, darkvision, pass without trace, silence, or Minor Illusion without providing material components." Done. 2) Cantrips can be cast at will, without using a spell slot. Cantrips don't expend a resource.   Discuss.
#2 jaelis May 08, 2015 6:25:39	The general rules is that a cantrip can be cast at will if you know it... I had assumed that was the same for the shadow monk.
#3 Tempest_Stormwind May 08, 2015 6:44:23	A high elf fighter or first gnome monk both just "know" their cantrips and can cast them at will. The same is true for a Shadow Arts monk; ki provides a resource similar to spell slots, but cantrips don't need spell slots.
