#1 Wolvercote Nov 06, 2014 16:33:44	I had a paladin with Shield Mastery and imbued with Cold Resistance get hit with a White's Dragon's Breath last night. Is there any scenario where he should have only taken a quarter damage?  Why won't these stack? I can't easily explain why they don't. Or maybe they do?
#2 Novacat Nov 06, 2014 18:34:02	Shield Master doesn't do anything that would cut the damage in half. It allows you to spend your reaction before making a saving throw, and if you succeed, you take no damage instead of the normal half damage.   If you fail your save, you take full damage (which will be halved by resistance). If you succeed on your save without using Shield Master, you will take half damage from the effect, which will be halved again when you apply your resistance to cold.
