How would the blue slaad attack which reduces the maximum hit points of a creature and infects it with chaos phage interact with a druid in beat form? Would the beast form have its maximum hit points reduced? Would all beast forms have their maximum hit points reduced? Would the form have its maximum hit points reduced during that use of wild shape but have its maximum back with a separate use of wild shape? Would the character have his or her hit point maximum reduced after returning to his or her original form? Would the character be unaffected by the hit point reduction when in his or her original form? Would the chaos phage only effect the druid while wild shaped? Would the chaos phage effect the druid after returning to his or her original form? The way that hit points are described for the beast form is the main stumbling block for me here.

Unless there's a rule about it I don't recall, I would be inclined to say that "reduced max hp" works like a status condition, and it would apply the same to all your forms. Just like I'd say if you get poisoned or diseased in wild shape, you would still be poisoned or diseased if you return to normal form. (Though even that I guess is debatable.)

Similarly I'd say the chaos phage affects you no matter your form.

But I think this would be up to an individual DM. I would play it that way to avoid making druids effectively immune to poison, disease, and the like, that seems too good and kind of unfun.

I agree with jaelis. The conditions are defienetly magical, so you can be affect by them in wild shape, and retain that effect in your natural form. I would say that posion and diease is the same. once its in your system, your "blood", that doesnt diseaper when you shape shift. Same thing with any type of shapeshifter, like shifters and changelings.

I will also concur.  Slaadi live in Limbo, on the rim of the Wheel, where beings target your soul more than your body.

I think it would be too much for druids to get some kind of immunity from conditions just by wildshaping.  Think of a bezerker/druid multiclass PC claiming no exhaustion since he/she raged as a wolf.

I'd argue the opposite, depending on the what caused it.

In a game I recently played our barbarian got afflicted with mummy rot so he couldn't heal and his maximum hit points were decreased. He was polymorphed by our transmuter into a Giant Ape, and as a group we decided that it should be unaffected by the maximum HP decrease of the mummy rot. Sure the barbarian was wounded down to 16 HPs and couldn't heal, but generally a PCs maximum HPs is irrelevant to the HPs a polymorph form, there was no reason for the Giant Ape to be reduced. We did however state that the Giant Ape couldn't be healed either.

I can however see a case being argued for effects like Life Drain reducing the maximum HPs of the Giant Ape form.

So I guess my advice is, the rules aren't specific about it and personally I'd rule on a case by case basis.
