| #1fjfnaranjoAug 31, 2014 21:45:49 | Hello everyone!
I was playing with a few friends yesterday using the 5ed PHB.
Our sorcerer tried to use the sleep spell over two already damaged NPCs. We proceeded to read the spell description and we stumbled upon a particular rule interpretation disagreement.
We all agreed in the range, radius and target order considerations, but we interpreted differently the rules to deplete the sleep HP pool (the total result after the dice roll).
Some of the players believe that the spell HP pool should be depleted by the target "maximum" hit points and some others believe that the amount to use is the "current" hit points.
We are all Spanish natives and our level of English is somehow limited.
The "max" theory proponents think that the spell specifies the "current" word for the spell target ordering and it omits it in the pool subtraction. They believe that this is done on purpose to refer to the "maximum" hit points. This is an obvious nerf to the "current" theory proponents.
Its all about semantics. I know. It looks to me that we like to diverge from the game and talk about the rules a lot. How it looks like from yours perspective? I have seen a few threads about it in the forums and it looks like the sleep spell is a little OP. I think the maximum theory make it more like its 3.5 ed version, but I want to know what is your English native interpretation and what do you think about the "maximum" theory as a house rule (maybe increasing the dice a little to account for the higher HP values in the 5ed).
Cheers.
PD: Engrish everywhere? Im sorry >;P |
