Sorcerer Flexible Casting

I ran search and did not see any post for this, but I think I just didn't search the right words because it seems like an issue to me. Can someone explain the sorcerer's flexible casting to me?

When creating spell slots do they remain forever? So could one create a spell slot, rest regain his sorcery points and create another spell slot...repeat until he has basically unlimited slots? Logic would say no, but the rules are not clear. They do not say how long the slot is there for...is it a cast once and it is gone thing?

A player of mine suggested that say for example at level 2 you have 2 sorcery points. You convert those into a spell slot. Those points do not come back until you convert back, back...giving you one and then after the rest you regain the second. Essentailly losing the sorcery points as long as the spell slot stays.

The whole thing seems pretty vague...is there any dev explaination on this? What rules do you guys use?

You can recharge a spent spell slot, not "create" one.

Regain=reset?

That is the intention, but it's not what is written. As written the slots created are permanent as far as I can tell, of course that's just sloppy writing and any player trying to argue the point should be spanked with a wet newspaper (unless they actually like that).
