Hey all, I am a bit confused. We have been playing an adventure where the DM states that spells are not affected by your stat modifier; ie Wis, Cha, Int. I also play in a different campaign where the DM says it does. Who is correct? If I am a cleric casting say, sacred flame or cure wounds, would I not add my wisdom bonus to either roll?

As a caster, there are two numbers that are important: Spell Attack Bonus and Spell Save DC. Both include your ability modifier.

Spell Attack Bonus = Spellcasting Ability modifier + Proficiency Bonus.

Spell Save DC = 8 + Spellcasting Ability modifier + Proficiency Bonus.

See PHB page 205 as well as the pages related to spellcasting classes.

Other spells might include the modifier. For example, healing spells generally add your ability mod.

Fully depends on the spell. Most spells don't even require you to do a roll (other than damage) and just use your DC for saving throws.

Each class has exactly one stat that affects the spellcasting attack bonus and DC. It's INT for wizards, WIS for clerics and CHA for pretty much anyone else.

Sacred Flame just deals 1d8 damage. No attack roll done. But your WIS determines the DC for the Dexterity Saving Throw the target must succeed to avoid damage.

Cure Wounds on the other hand heals 1d8+spellcasting modifier, so here your WIS actually directly affects the healing amount.

If a spell says you do a spell attack, then you actually do a hit roll and apply your spell attack bonus to the result.

If you want Wisdom to damage with Sacred Flame, that's what Potent Spellcasting is for. It shows up later on a couple of domains.

Just a note: the lack of damage modifier on most spell abilities is one of the key mechanisms that balances fighting classes with casting classes. Fighting classes generally out-damage casting classes because they get to add their ability modifier to damage.
