#1 ren1999 Oct 04, 2014 7:09:38	How are Holy and Arcane Focus applied to DC and Attack rolls?   DC8+ability modifier+proficiency modifier+focus?   Are attack rolls 1d20+ability modifier+proficiency modifier+focus?   Maneuver DC rolls are DC8+ability modifier+proficiency modifier. Where is the martial character getting a focus like bonus from?
#2 Plaguescarred1 Oct 04, 2014 7:19:37	Spell focus don't interact with spells DC or Attack roll bonus. All it does is replace non-costly material component. Spellcasting used to during D&D Next Playtest but was changed in late development.   PHB203 Material Component:  A character can use a component pouch or a spellcasting focus (found in chapter 5) in place of the components specified for a spell. But if a cost is indicated for a component, a character must have that specific component before he or she can cast the spell.
#3 Polaris Oct 04, 2014 8:34:52	Plague has the right of it.  Of particular importance, however, is the ruling by Mearls that a hand that's holding a Holy/Arcane focus does not count as an occupied hand for the purposes of spellcasting.  That includes a shield with a holy symbol on it (turning the shield into a holy focus).  That means a cleric can use spells with "S" components while holding a mace in one hand and a shield in the other provided the shield has a holy symbol on it (turning into a holy focus).  It also means a wizard can use a staff in one hand and have the other hand occupied (somehow) and still cast spells provided the staff is an arcane focus.   -Polaris
