If you have a free hand, it makes sense that you can throw components and then wave your finger. If you substitute components for a spell focus, can you wave the spell focus around, or do you need yet another free hand to do that? (So would a wizard without a component pouch essentially need both hands for a spell with both components?)
By extention, can you combine a spell focus with a weapon (like a holy symbol on a warhammer or Hagrid's umbrella/wand from Harry Potter,) and wave that around for spells? I know it required a feat in an earlier editiion, and it would be up to the dm to allow it, but what is everyone's thoughts on this? |

Also arcane focus donèt mention if they can or cannot be mounted on other object, such as a weapon, so it'd be probably up to the DM. |

| #5AnchoriteGamerJul 26, 2015 17:51:40 | QUESTION: What are the practical limitations of what a wizard can or cannot cast through their familiar? Are there any feats which will change the only stated requirement of the range having to be 'touch.?
'Find Familiar' allows a spellcaster to cast any spell with 'touch' range through its familiar. Am I reading this right?
Some touch-range spells include Arcane Lock (Abj), Awaken (Trans), Bakskin (Trans), Beast Sense (Div), Bestow Curse (Nec), Clone (Nec), Contagion (Nec), Continual Flame (Evoc), Death Ward (Abj), Drawnij's Instant Summons (Conj), Elemental Weapon (Trans), Enhance Ability (Trans), Feign Death (Nec), Fly (Trans), Forbiddance (Abj), Foresight (Div), Freedom of Movement (Abj), Gaseous Form (Trans), Gentle REpose (Nec), Glyph of Warding (Abj), Greater Invisibility (Ill), Greater Restoriation (Abj), Guads and Wards (Abj), Gudance (cantrip), Hallow (Evoc), Heroism (Conj), Identify (Div), Inlict Wounds (Nec), Invisibility (Ill), Jump (Trans), Leomund's Secret Chest (Conj), Lesser REstoration, Light (Evoc cantrip), Plane Shift, Raise Dead, Shocking Grasp,
Basically, only a few of these can cause damage, and none, are area of effect damage spells. |
