Spell Question: Moonbeam

We had a question on the Moonbeam spell, specifically with the interaction of the two bolded items below.

We're wondering if "when a creature enters the spell's area" is only triggered when a creature uses their movement to pass through the beam, or if it can also be triggered by moving the beam through creature's spaces (i.e., the movement of the beam is causing the creature to enter the spell's area too).

The Wall/Barrier spells have similar wording, but they cannot be moved each round like Moonbeam can. Flaming Sphere isn't a perfect match either, but it does include specific language (which Moonbeam lacks) about causing damage by moving the spell around. This would seem to imply the intention of Moonbeam was not to let the spell harm creatures during the beam's movement.

Thoughts?

When a creature enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it is engulfed in ghostly flames that cause searing pain, and it must make a Constitution saving throw. It takes 2d10 radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one

Moving a Moonbeam onto a creature space does not cause them to "enter" the area. They'll take damage when they start their turn, but not immediately when you move it onto them.
