Spell Slots and Domain Spells (or other 'Bonus Spells') - Infinite Use?

So, looking over the cleric domains, I notice that the domain spells that are granted say that they are always prepared, and that they do not use any spell slots when cast.

Does this mean that the cleric can use these bonus spells like cantrips, and can cast them infinitely, or just that they have a single extra use of them each long rest?

I think there are likely other classes with similar bonus spell features as well, though I'm focusing on the cleric here because I am playing one as my first 5E character.

Yes, you are misreading it. It is not counted toward your max number of prepared slots. Still takes spell slots to cast.

To be clear: you do not get any free uses of the Domain spells.

However, those spells are "free" when counting your limit of prepared spells (wisdom mod + Cleric level).

A first-level cleric with a 16 Wisdom can prepare 4 spells.  Let's say he or she picks: cure wounds, bless, sanctuary, and healing word.

That same cleric gets bless and cure wounds as domain spells with the Life domain.  He or she could then pick: bless*, cure wounds*, sanctuary, healing word, shield of faith, and command.

The bless and cure wounds spells are "automatically" and "free"ly prepared every day for the Cleric.  The other four spells can be changed when the cleric prepares spells.

However, this first level Cleric still only has 2 spell slots for 1st level spells.  He or she may only cast two of those six prepared spells per day (or the same one spell twice).
