Basically, as a Sorcerer you can use the Distant metamagic ability to double the range of any spell.
The Spell Sniper feat does the same thing.
So, said Sorcerer could take the Spell Sniper feat, picking up Thorn Whip.
Thorn Whip is a Druid cantrip. It's unique in that it has a range of 30 feet but is a melee spell attack.
So, for 1 sorcery point, this spell could be cast at up to 120 feet away (thanks to the Spell Sniper feat doubling the range and the Distant metamagic doubling it again), without disadvantage for being in melee since it is a melee spell attack.
Now, if only there was a way to enhance the distance it allows you to pull the target.... |

I think I am going to pull a RAI moment here though. Spell SNIPER. Its meant to be used on ranged spells. Lines, rays, darts, orbs, what ever else magic you happen to be shooting. So yeah, you could pull it off in AL where there are less house ruling, but to me this violates the spirit of spell sniper.
though if you want to talk distance, eldrict spear invocation for 300 ft, plus spell sniper for double, 600 feet rays of force damage. A range I dont even think can really be utilized, just how far is mortal suppose to be able to see and still shoot that. |

It doesn't benefit from the ignoring cover - since that only applies to 'ranged spell attacks'. But the double distance doesn't specify that. Just that it requires an attack roll. |

Way weaker than quickened spells or twinned haste etc. |
