| #2NovacatNov 06, 2014 21:36:45 | An Intelligence (Arcana) check would cover that perfectly. |
| #3cowleymenNov 06, 2014 22:33:26 | For divine source you might consider religion or if they are a nature person, Druid/ranger, nature. Dc equal 10+spell level. maybe 12+spell level |

| #5cowleymenNov 06, 2014 23:07:39 | then i would argue the Arcana skill should use the ability score relevant to the type of magic. I never liked the idea that a cleric casting a spell cast it in the exact method that a wizard or bard does. In the game world, they might be doing very different things. it might be the same spell in our game book, but its a very different skill learned in game |
| #6AaronOfBarbariaNov 06, 2014 23:32:09 | A suggestion:
Don't require such a roll. Just let the characters recognize any spell you are okay as a DM with them recognizing, and declare any spell you aren't okay with them recognizing as unrecognizable.
There isn't much besides another die roll and another chance to not get to use your character's powers and feel you made a poor choice in choosing them added to the game by insisting on such a roll. |
