Hey guys, need some help with wall of force and Otiluke's resilient sphere.

A player in my group says that he should be able to stay inside the protection one of these spells and be able to summon creatures or other spells on the otherside (being this way basically invincible while sill able to deal damage with his creatures or spells)

in the description it says:

Nothing—not physical objects, energy, or other spell effects—can pass through the barrier, in or out, though a creature in the sphere can breathe there.

So my interpretation of the rule would be that he can't cast spells outside of the sphere..

but at the same time spells that have origin in an area outside the wall/sphere, like Sleep or Mordenkainen's Faithful Hound should act normally even if he casts them from inside...

What you guys think?

Thanks!

For spells that need a target, you need a "clear path to the target"  These don't require a 'target' per se, but between that and the spell description, I would say it does not work.

Though if you decided to allow it, it would be pretty funny to have an enemy summon a creature of its own inside the sphere... I might allow it just for that

For record and maximium effect, you can do the following:

Place the dome 1 inch off the ground.  This gives room for your spells to pass underneath while blocking all physical attacks.

It's a force sphere.  I would have it block anything that travels physically.  Fireballs, lightning bolts, etc.  For spells that are ranged, but don't need line of effect like sleep, I would allow them to be cast.  I would do this regardless of RAW or WotC rulings.  It doesn't make sense that a physical force field would block non-physical things.

Since concentration is a thing there is no casting summoning spells...but if you did cast an ORS on someone else who could cast a summon spell...how would you communicate your directions to them?  Sound and telepathy cant pass through...actually a strict reading could mean that light can't enter it either.

As for other spells, spells that originate at a point in space target the point of origin.

Best combo i can think of with ORS is to have someone else cast cloudkill or a wall of fire through the creatures space.  Then you cast ORS on them and the spell effects are already in the space.  the cloudkill would stay there since it can't move away.
