#1 brettlangbdl Oct 21, 2014 7:27:00	Reading the spiritual hammer spell, it would seem obvious to me that to attack with the spell requires the use of the caster's bonus action. My player is trying to convince me the spell "auto-attacks" and he only needs to use the bonus action if he wants to switch targets. Which then means he can cast 3-4 hammers in an encounter and have them all attacking the same target. He wasn't happy when i disagreed, so just curious if anyone else agrees with him, or my interpretation of the spell description ?

Regarding usage, for me it's clear: "as a bonus action on your turn, you can move the weapon up to 20 feet and repeat the attack" So you can move it (or not at all) and make the attack again, but it will cost you a bonus action. Since you cannot take more than a bonus action per turn and only on your turn, you cannot make more than one attack with the spiritual weapon.

As regards how it requires your bonus action, yes, I thought that was clear as well, but was having trouble convincing my player.. lol
