These rulings seem to contradict each other:

Any contradictory or nonsensical answers can be attributed to the fact that they are giving off-the-cuff answers from a "how I would rule it" perspective. It's not "here's how the rules are supposed to work."
Whenever there's doubt, ask your DM. If you are the DM, make whatever ruling makes the most sense to you, regardless of what Mearls said. |

There's also the question of if you want to follow the RAW from the book or not. If you're not the DM, check with your DM. If you are the DM, asking questions on the rules Q&A forum or the DM forum can be helpful to you. Or just decide for yourself what you want to do. Just keep in mind that you should always strive to favor the players if you can. |

I'm hopeful that after the DMG comes out we'll get an FAQ/Sage Advice along with some version of Dragon/Dungeon but I wouldn't hold my breath.
You can always post to this forum, but don't expect consensus on all issues. |
| #5NoctaemOct 23, 2014 10:03:34 | There's actually a few Q&A's already out. The oldest I could find with a cursory search was this one:

But I know there are more recent Q&A's and even some detailing rules in the PHB. There was one which was linked by paulstrait in another thread which talked about how the Lucky feat interacts with disadvantage. |
