Thrown weapons return?

I haven't noticed anything saying it yet, but are there any rules regarding magic thrown weapons returning when thrown?

They do not.

 

Though i imagine many magic thrown weapons will specificly have a returning enchantment of some kind.

Thrown weapons are very undefined. When you hit, does it stick into the target, rendering unusable until it can be retrieved? Does it fall to the ground and you simply have to pick it up? Does it bounce to a random square? And what if you miss?

As you said, its undefines, but in my group a thrown dagger that hits would probably stick (for the rool of cool) and then maybe be thrown aside by the creature it struck next round. It seems to be what my group automaticly assumes, so I roll with that.  I might take the armor and other effects into considerations if the ask me later thou.

 

If I were to make an official ruling on the other side, I would probably let it fall in the creatures space on a hit, and a adjacent square on a miss, depending on the weapon. Maybe rolling a D6 to see what direction.

 

I think what I am trying to say isthat it is mostly DM fiat.

Cool.  I was hoping that would be the case.  I love 4th, but a lot of the rules were pretty silly, like ALL magic thrown weapons return.

If a thrown weapon doesn't return, then you better not throw it. You're going to lose it or have it used against you. That +2 javelin you got? Use it like a little spear.
