So now i'm confused. I didn't drink a Cotion of Ponfusion but it sure looks like it.

GRAPPLING.

It's mentioned on page 195 as "Melee attacks". it says "use the Attack action to make a special melee attack". So in my book it's an attack.

Then I read the sage advice section on ability checks. There it is mentioned as an ability check... You don't make an attack roll but a check.

So you use the Attack action to use a melee attack and use an ability check to see the outcome... right.

But the part i'm ponfused about, a handsy barby. Does barbarian rage ends when the only thing that happens in a round is the barby grapplig his/her target?

The rage states "or if your turn ends and you haven't attacked a hostile creature" (P48).

So as I read it, it doesn't! you use the Attack action, you do attack, you just don't make an attack roll...

Am I looking at it correctly?

I wouldn't drop the rage.

The barbarian is grappling the wizard. And that is full contact, armbars or whatever that he remains a hold over wizard. He is not holding him gently with one hand and drinking Earl grey with other. And intend to throw him of the cliff in the next round, yes that would count as raging thought
