#1 Redbeard2 Oct 07, 2014 3:03:19	I've looked through the PHB and the DM Basic PDF, but can't locate the rules for a touch attack in 5e.  Not necessarily with a spell, but trying to brush off a poisonous insect.   Thanks,   Redbeard2
#2 AaronOfBarbaria Oct 07, 2014 4:03:33	There is no such thing as a "touch attack" in D&D 5th edition.   Either you make an attack roll (comes in varieties of melee weapon attack, ranged weapon attack, melee spell attack, and ranged spell attack) against AC (calculated normally regardless of the type of attack), or you cause your target to make a saving throw (disintegrate is an example of a spell that used to involve a "touch attack", but now it is simply a dexterity saving throw to avoid the effect), or you make an Ability check in an opposed test against your target (such as using Strength (Athletics) to push a target).
#3 Timborama Oct 07, 2014 5:44:37	Depending on what you're doing, you can either punch the bug off you (unarmed strike) or Push the bug off you (using the Shove rules).   You can "touch" someone potentially by rolling at least 10+their DEX modifier (maybe +2 if using a shield). But I'd honestly stick with the rules saying you need to meaningfully touch them (so you have to find a gap in their full plate, push hard enough with a spell through the studded leather, NOT touch the shield, etc) so you just make a "touch attack" against their full AC. Otherwise, the effect slides off, bounces off, or harmlessly touches the subject
#4 Clutchbone Oct 07, 2014 9:39:05	FYI, everyone except druids, sorcerors and wizards get their proficiency on all simple weapon attack rolls, including unarmed strike attack rolls.
