And then hit it with disintigrate, what happens? How about power word kill?
What exactly does "Permanate" mean with true polymorph. Would taking damage revert them back? |

I agree with Danfmac about permanent, though - once that sets in it is no longer dispellable, doesn't shut off in an antimagic field, and becomes the normal form so there is nothing to revert to upon being reduced to 0 hit points. |

Also, with power word kill, it doesn't say anything about dealing damage or reducing hit points. Just that it flat out dies. |
| #8BloodscytheNov 04, 2014 10:04:09 | So with regard to disintegrate and power word kill in conjunction with Polymorph:
Using the tarrasque polymorphed into a sheep example:
Disintegrate: When you cast disintegrate, the target takes a bunch of damage. If that damage drops the creature to 0 hp, it is disintegrated. The disintegration is a 10 cubic ft space if the creature is larger than large. So the way I see it, you deal damage to the sheep, it drops to 0 hp, and it is disintegrated. But upon hitting 0 hp, it reverts to its previous form, which is now larger than large. It is both disintegrated partially, and back to its original form because since both spells rules apply, upon hitting 0 hp, the tarrasque/sheep is disintegrated and reverted back to its original form. This satisfies both spells simultaneously. The tarrasque is damaged, partially disintegrated, and back to being the tarrasque. Of course, you could always just say the sheep form disintegrated, and the Tarrasque shows back up without being partially disintegrated. Either way, the Tarrasque, in its original form, shows back up after you kill the sheep.
Power Word Kill: When you cast power word kill, a target creature dies. Per polymorph/true polymorph, when the creature dies it reverts to its original form and original hp. You kill a sheep from power word kill, and it changes back to the Tarrasque, with whatever hp it had prior to polymorph, and the change back (since it sets hp to a total above 0) is to a living version of the tarrasque. This satisfies both spells simultaneously. It's no different from walking over to a tarrasque/sheep and stabbing it to death. The moment it dies (reaches 0 hp), it becomes the Tarrasque again, with hp, despite being killed as a sheep. A creature with hp is not a dead creature. (potentially undead, but not dead)
At least, that's how I'm ruling on these spell interactions.

| #14UndrhilNov 04, 2014 21:33:28 | So, in order to calm the mighty Terrasque, you need True Polymorph and a whole bunch of spell slots for sleep.
Put the Terrasque into a 1 or 2 hp form, then cast sleep on it. You cannot fail on putting a 1 or 2 hp creature to sleep with the Sleep spell. Just keep applying Sleep until the hour is up.
Now, it's a permanent 1 or 2 hp creature. Kill it. Or keep it as a pet.
"This litte lizard? Yeah, it's a Terrasque." |

| #171eejitNov 07, 2014 2:30:29 | True Polymorph into an Awakened Shrub, then Plane Shift (or Imprisonment after a long rest). Or into a brick and Demiplane.
Why try to kill it? |
| #18melloredNov 07, 2014 5:12:15 | If you true polymorph terrasque into a brick.. and make it permanate.
Can someone else true polymorph the brick back into terrasque?
i.e. is it a CR 30 brick?
What about regular polymorph. Can you polymorph terrasque into a frog, then have someone else polymorph the frog into terrasque? |
| #19TimboramaNov 07, 2014 7:30:23 | With Polymorph, I'm not sure, but lean towards "no" if you poly a Terrasque into a Toad but then another spellcaster tries to TRUE Poly the toad into a Terrasque.
With True Poly, once the Terrasque is a permanent brick, it becomes CR(Brick), but with it being a Legendary creature, a DM is well within his rights to say "But his soul is still there and can be freed, should the stars align with a Wish or level 9 Dispel Magic if they break into your Demiplane... |
