Uncanny Dodge + Resistance

I wanted to make sure I'm not crazy in reading this for 5th edition:

 

If you have a Rogue with Uncanny Dodge and he gets Resistance as well (say he has Blade Ward on him), does it half the damage from Uncanny Dodge and then Resistance halves it again? Or do you only get to half it one time? Uncanny Dodge doesn't say it gives Resistance so I'm trying to see if they stack.

There are, to my knowledge, no rules about halving half-damage. So ask your DM. Personally, I would allow the rogue to take 1/4 damage from this combo.

I would also make the rogue take 1/4 of the damage since said damage gets halved twice before being actually applied as damage.  Once for resistance, once for uncanny dodge.  As Novacat states, there's no rule for how the interaction would go, but you don't want to invalidate stuff either.  So half the damage twice for 1/4.

I had a similar question on "Ask a simple questions ..." forum thread as well.

This is my question below plus the response Plaguedscarred gave me.

 

Q783: If a Barbarian5/Rogue5 has the Bear Totem at 3rd level Barbarian to Resist all Damage (except Psychic) and Uncanny Dodge at 5th level Rogue to halve damage as a Reaction, while Raging can those 2 abilities stack up? Resist Damage from Raging and Uncanny Dodge as a Reaction to Half Damage from attacks? Would he take 1/4 damage?
Is that legal?

 

A783: You'd halve the damage, then apply resistance i believe, since Resistance and vulnerability are applied after all other modifiers to damage. (Basic Rules pg. 75)

Uncanny Dodge is not resistance. It just halves damage.

 

So you apply it first, then resistance.

i would probably not allow this combo at my table, my gut feeling is it is too strong, easy to get and likely not intended.

Yes because spending an entire action on Blade Ward is so powerful.

I'm aiming to go Rogue 5 and then Fighter (Eldritch Knight) the rest of the way so that eventually I'll be able to keep up Blade Ward and still get one attack in if I feel the need for being defensive. But that small combo requires character level 12.
