Hello everyone,

I have been running a few groups as DM and now ran into a scenario were a Tempest Cleric wants to use the wand of Magic Missle (our wizard has a higher DPR than him, Fire Blast vs Radiance, and they like to optimize their party) is this allowed? The rules for scrolls state that the spell should be on the class spell list, but for wands there don't seem to be any limitations, can a barbarian for instance also use the wand if he is attuned to it?

For scrolls, it depends on the type of scroll, the wording on page 139 is talking about warding scrolls, not general spell scrolls.  It is a bit confusing.

Page 200 DMG under Scrolls  "If the spell is on your class's spell list..."

For the most part there doesn't seem to be a limitation on usage of wands.

So, yes, Spell Scrolls require the spell to be on the PC's class list, and if on it but of a higher level than the PC can currently cast, requires a DC check for casting successfully. (See p.200)

Scrolls that are not Spell Scrolls can be used by anyone. (There is currently only 1 such scroll in the DMG)

There is no inherrent restriction for wands, but most of them are restricted via attunement (Only attuned by Warlocks, or only by clerics and druids, or only by...etc...)

Wand of MM has no such restrictions, and thus can be used by anyone.
