Several doubts: I cannot find what is required to drink a potion .If you have it in your hands, can you drink it as part of your movement? If you have it stored in your backpack, can you retrieve it as part of your movement and then drink it as your action in your turn? What about other magic items, like wands or staffs? Using their powers would be an action (performed through Use an Object)? Is disarming a trap/pick a lock performed through Use an Object too? |

It's not a primary action but rather an allowance for letting a player do something in the sidebar on Basic Rules p. 70 an extra time on one turn (at the cost of his or her action).
As stated above, if an action requires an ability check (disarming or picking), it's an ability check action (a "Dexterity (Pick Lock) Check Action"), not "Use an Object."
Any item which specifies that it takes an "action" to utilize is not the generic "Use an Object" action, but rather a special case. "Use an Object" applies only to things you could do for free, but is employed when a character already used his or her "free" object action and wishes to do another (i.e.: a PC can move and open a door for free, but if they want to close the door behind them, they must "Use an Object" and give up their action.)
From the Thief Rogue ability "Fast Hands:"
